Candy Deemer

Faculty and Executive Coach

Candy Deemer is an Associate and Executive Coach with El Camino Group, LLC. Candy is a writer/co-author of Dancing on the Glass Ceiling (McGraw-Hill 2003). Her articles have appeared in national publications, and she speaks to professional groups and university students about the challenges facing professional women, and what they can do to achieve their career aspirations.

Candy’s “first career” was advertising. She spent 22 years in client services and general agency management, primarily with DDB Worldwide Communications in Chicago and Los Angeles. She was Co- Managing Director/Chief Operating Officer of the agency’s Los Angeles office. She has served on the Boards of Directors of the American Advertising Museum, and Students in Free Enterprise (non-profit founded by Sam Walton to promote understanding of the free enterprise system among college students).

Candy is a founding partner and founding board member of Los Angeles Social Venture Partners (www.lasvp.org), a diverse group of professionals who are pioneering a new, high-engagement model of nonprofit giving— Venture Philanthropy. Her key focus area with LASVP is supporting the charter public school movement in Los Angeles.

Candy holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Advertising from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and she is a member of the Board of Advisers of Medill. Candy taught Professional Growth Planning from 2005-2018 in Loyola Marymount University’s Executive MBA program and was an Executive Coach from 2019 – 2020. She is a charter member and former Chair of Northwestern’s Council of One Hundred, a national group of distinguished professional alumnae who are selected to provide career mentoring to the University’s women students and young alums. She is also one of 15 national Directors-at- Large for the Northwestern University Alumni Association.

Candy lives in Manhattan Beach and is married, with three sons and one ginormous dog. An avid traveler, she has visited over 30 countries, including a year living in Spain with her family. She is “casi- fluent” in Spanish, and speaks English pretty well, too.
