Dr. Janice Doucet Thompson

Faculty and Executive Coach

Dr. Janice Doucet Thompson is an Associate and Executive Coach with El Camino Group, LLC. As an organization development practitioner, she has passion and knowledge to optimize leadership effectiveness and resiliency within her client organizations. Her Why is simple: “I believe in helping people be there best so they can live more productive, happier lives.”

A highly experienced and skilled consultant, Janice understands what it takes to deliver results in challenging and complex environments. Her areas of expertise include executive leadership coaching, succession planning and talent management, strategic visioning and retreat facilitation, and change management.

Her client work includes projects with Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Teichert, Eko Health, Lilliput Families, City of Sacramento, Department of Utilities, MBK Engineers, Farmers’ Rice Cooperative, San Juan Water District, and Raley’s. She is a Partner with The Ken Blanchard Companies and a Certified Coach for Individuals and Teams with Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching. Janice is also a Fellow at Institute of Coaching, McLean/Harvard Medical School, which exists to empower its members to make a significant, positive impact on the field of coaching and the world.

Janice’s 30-year-career has included leadership roles with Sutter Health, Raley’s, The Ken Blanchard Companies, The Juran Institute, First Union/Wachovia, Capax Insurance Services, Blue Diamond Growers, and San Jose State University. At Sutter Health and Raley’s, she designed and launched executive development and leadership programs to build the leadership bench and drive succession planning efforts. At Juran she worked as the Change Practice Leader helping clients implement strategic large-scale change initiatives in the healthcare practice.

Janice is passionate about teaching and serves on the faculty at UC Davis Extension working with California state agencies, and at the University of San Diego, where she teaches Culture at Work: Putting Principles into Practice for the School of Business Administration, Master of Science in Executive Leadership program (MSEL).

A lifelong learner, Janice holds a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Brandman University, part of the Chapman University system, a Master’s Degree in Human Resources and Organization Development from the USF, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations from SJSU. Her dissertation was a published study on Leading with Emotional Labor, which addressed how managers who practice leading with EL can affect their subordinates’ work performance, job satisfaction and engagement in service-related work.

She has served on several non-profit boards including ALS Association of Greater Sacramento, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater Sacramento, Leadership California and the Sacramento Zoo. Janice is certified as a facilitator and coach for DiSC, Clifton Strengthfinders, Learning Styles, and Voices and Benchmarks 360° assessments, as well as a 4MAT trainer and curriculum designer. She facilitates Blanchard workshops on SLII®, Situational Self Leadership®, Building Trust and Leading People through Change.
